They really built these things good.
I loaded the front panel I disassembled off an old ONKYO Stereo quartz locked Tuner which I'd salvaged, and am using it as an enclosure, well the top and sides, wood will go around the sides also, and a metal plate will be attached for the bottom.
I have the Onkyo's old front panel all loaded. Nice and stiff, holes all along the front and one side, about 2'' deep. Very Nice...and true retro style.
I put a metal panel behind the tuner window.
 Inside I have a Minibooster, an SD-1,
And on the 'other side'...the HOT Silicon I built today !!!!!!!!! OUCH    [HOT]
 Really great build.
I like this setup. EZ access with the wideness and low sides...perfect height, I have about 1/8 inch tolerance between top of the circuit and the bottom of the sides.
I find my new enclosures [I haven't yet wooded the sides and plated the bottom of the 'new' panel] I find it's alot easier getting them in with the knobs along one side. I didn't have to shorten or lengthen wires as much, and I can tip the board up by loosening 1 screw that holds itself in the hole] I tap right into the board with self tapping screw, and with the thick clear plastic theft prevention packaging material, and neat'stiff wiring underneath, I just clamp the board right down, getting it as close as possible to the ground plane.
This thing will hold still on the floor I say. I wont' have to add weight or strap it down. require fewer batteries and cables,  and should be more dependable as a result, it's low noise, the long stretches I went ahead and used shielded wires...the layout is basically linear, fairly short wires, except the shielded 12''+ stretches [2].
Deciding what to put in it... ...I decided on the rythm 'n lead combo, what's nice is the one switch move from dialed in Minibooster/SD-1, which by themselves have most of one side of the tone pallette pretty well covered...P,D. Semi Clean boost/OD?DIST. The Minibooster was 'press 'n go', but I do alot of reworks on the SD-1's, Once tuned, they're real smooth like TS, with wider range of Gain, Tone knob just darkens it enough.
The Mean Time// HOT Silicon !!! OUCH !!! THis Time I mean it !!! Gets 'grauyngie', and I drop the guitar vol. just a half notch, words cant describe, a little more and it is really nice electric Blues/Acid rock...the volume swells, and the thickness of the gain...but with some clarity and definition...I can't say Best...every time I do it just gets a little better...
Pretty much a build it box it affair, highly recommended, I've only had the HS going since I built it This Morning...here I am though...already telling you Fuzz Fans...this one is a 'must build it to know it'
Whoops..I have a Jfet in Q1, trimpots for Q's 1.2.3. I may have stated a cap change, But I added the R to the R'C at the end I'd left off...Much brighter now...doh...I'm hiding a switch in that area also, but I haven't chosen the switched R or C values, or decided exactly where it will go.
It's an extrordinarily powerful monster, I'm impressed by the extreme aggression it can illicit from the guitar/amp, and still retain good discernable note content.
Long time building, panelizing, then the debugging, in circuit debugging, loose connection took long to find...why...?...lol
I'm real pleased with the results, it may be a bit of a wide gear range....SD being all mild mannered and somewhat snooty' sounding like a TS, all the way to the HS, which is growling beast...at least I'll be able to tell when the lead sound started...lol !!!
Actually the plan is use the HS, and the volume/gain control on the guitar for heavy stuff with leads, and the Minibooster/SD for nice mild to thick OD..
Thanks again Doug and everybody !!! I'ts not easy to get it like this, still I have it too easy, it takes work, I really appreciate the sharing, posting of diagrams, explanations, helpful hints and friendly attitude, and understand that hours of labor, nights of contemplation and moments of inspiration are only a few of the things that make things tick so exquisitely. To TI, for sending to me the chips which allowed me to know what a 4558, 5532, TL072 actually sound like.
I should know better than to think it Can't get better than this, it is getting P.D.Good. Easily theres' room left still in the panel for a modulation device...Hmmmmm... :D

pete, what  the hell are you talking about?

I'm the hell sorry, I've edited the post, I hope it's clearer for you, perhaps I left too much for granted again...still I'm finding the panels are easy to load, the right height, are plenty strong enough, have all the holes you may need for many circuits, will sit and stay where you put them on the floor, provide easy acces to board bottoms, require fewer parts and connections than RACO's for instance, and could possibly be found free, in the last year, I've aquired two of them. The parts inside the stereo unit that I've used in SB builds would figure easily over 40$ at RS. If you salvage and can find one of these, you're doing quite well, including more than one 100k dual gang and a 250k dual gang, plus more 100k's etc. two of the pots are used in the reloaded front panel, as are probably other parts that came from one of the old excellent Onkyo salvage finds.
I tried to explain some of the things I did to it to prepare it as a nice enclosure, and I think the results are good, some may laugh at the idea of a panels appearance...others may find them very useful for a stompbox enclosure for multiple circuits like I did. I like the flat profile, and wide panel, bypass switches can be near the effect one the inside, and right in front on the outside.

That's not fair - you could post that after any of Pete's posts. Why single this one out!?

Pete - just bustin' em! I love that crazy wacky stream of conciousness thing you do so well.

Good stuff pete! I hope we can see some pics of that beast some day.

I recently gutted a KVM and I'm going to put a couple of pedals in it, maybe a Fuzz Face and my Chicken Salad Vibrato pedal.

The "Phibe 90" [Just a phase 90, with some different cap values around the stages. Oh 5532's..I'd forgot where they were. I'd replaced the tl082's, and hadn't really used it, mostly because it was in an RS box, the battery clip hangin' out..messy, the jacks needed re-arranged, they were backward from my set way.
Playing this thing is a dream. I like that it is a wolf in sheeps clothing, no-name, straight, will be attractive with all 15 knobs on it, closer inspection will reveal it's homeyness.
It's quite a task, getting it ALL the way you want it. I decided to put the phazer in the front of the chain, though I like the thicker 'swooshy' after Fuzz, I have such fun with the musicality of the softer modulations it gets in front.
It is alot of work puttting these things together like this. I'm in awe of other peoples accomplishments, when I see reference to commercial pedal prices, I'm sometimes  :)  knowing it is no simple task. Getting knobs tapered perfectly [mine are good/very close to exactly what I want them to do], doing the in-box wiring without scarring the insulation with the hot iron, leaving a trace of glob, or splinter of metal anywhere in it, the finish and letterings artfully done and aligned perfectly, producing a flawless multi-effect pedal takes research.
Though the HS needs nothing on it to be spectacular, it tolerates the previous stages well, provided they are modestly gained up, which is where I like them, choosing effect chain order is critical to me. I've done alot of live and lab research figureing out what I like to use with my rigs the most.
I can think of compromises that are made by doing a multi-pedal.
There's a small gap between the Smooth to the point of being soothing sounds of the SD, and the Smokin' HOT Silicon with given guitar vol. setting. I think that's gonna be cool   8)  //
The low noise factor is excellent. I put about a yard of shielded in there, probably overkill, boards are like right on ground plane, I was playing moderately loud, it's very nice to be able to chop the end off of  a high gain, thick A [Crunch Test] Chord, and go to virtual silence...Sweet !
I had this other pedal, [my memory wander back in time] wouldn't do that, didn't sound that great either.
OK PICS...whew...enough about this thing...just reallyglad   :D  it's high performance... and BOXXED!!
I can Email Pics of this...N/P. Send me an email, I should be able to get them out. Gotta go take the Pics  first....now where's that 500w Quartz Haolgen Lamp? I'll try to setup some backlighting.
If someone we're to volunteer to host/post them, that would be OK :)
I'm not ready to figure Pic out again right now.
