know the feeling?
that mis biased transistor sound?
i know the wirings ok, can ge transistors break by themselves?
how sensetive are they to damage? it worked before but then i took it out of its box to paint it and now it dont work anymore.

help :!:

What's the voltage on the collector of Q2?  Usually transistors, even Ge., won't break by themselves, but they can be sensitive to heat damage.

My guess would be that Q2 is simply misbiased...too much voltage on the collector...causing that farty, sputtery misbiased sound.  You could install a 20K or 25K trimpot on the collector so that you can adjust the voltage to about -4.5V.

when i measure the voltage it came up as 0.00.
this caused suspucion and it turns out my stereo jack is in fact broken.
how annoying

cheers phillip

Stereo jack...should be on the other side of the DC blocking caps?
000's for reading on Q2 collector...something in the circuit's probably causeing this condition...
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

i think you misunderstood me there...

the stereo jack that disconnects the battery when you unplug the effect was broken, so even when there was a plug in the jack it wasnt connecting the battery, thats why the Q2s collector measured 0v.
there was no powre in there at all. :)
