for the BK Butler Tube Driver, or the Ron Black Tube Distortion (read here
http://www.zugster.net/amps/articles/tube-pedals/
can a 12AV6 tube replace the tubes in the circuit (12AX7 and 12AU7) I looked up the specs and the 12AV6 seems to be a dual triode (I think). Could someone please help me out, or give me a circuit where I could use these tubes (12AV6). Thnx

Hey there,

A 12AV6 or 6AV6 can be used in place of half a 12AX7...many tube manuals state on the 12AX7 page "For curves see 6AV6".

I`d rather say: NO !

the 12AV6 (12V heater) and
the 6AV6 (aka : EBC91) (6V heater)
are Duo-Diode-Triodes,
which got different sockets & pinouts.

The triode-part however got about the same specs
as half a 12AX7 (aka : ECC83), that`s true...

Well, yes they're 7-pin miniatures, I was assuming the question was regarding the characteristics of the triode.  :)

Cut it large, and smash it into place with a hammer.

I got mine from a guy who used to sell tubes, so these are NOS (new old stock). Can someone make an idiot proof  way to run the a 12AX7 circuit off a pair of 12AV6's (like a chart that say's pin one on first half of 12AX7 is pin # on 12AV6.

Thnx
