I looked today to see how hard it would be to pull the preamp out of one of my Silvertone S/S head's that sat on top of a 6X10 cab, it look's to be very easy, and leave's about enough room for maybe 5 of the Amp Emulating pedal's from ROG, Can you imagine 150 watt power section pushing one of these pedal's through 6 10 in. vintage Jensen's, I can, I started this project this morning like a wild man, :D
I'm gonna add in a Professor Tweed, the Eighteen, the Matchbox, the Supereau, and the English, footswitchable from a Stompbox, tone and volume's for each amp on the front panel with a Master volume controlling the Lot,This may take awhile but I'm gonna do it, If I get the Maggy 440 I started on my own built in time, it may be one of the pedal's I may choose for this project,

oh my......

That's gonna be a MONSTER!        8)  :!:

I can't wait for the pictures! :D

OK, here's my idea input..... use either reed relays or those little NEC telcom relays for switching for minimum switching noise.

OK, JD, now that you've got us all drooling...

We expect a full, detailed build report with schematics and many close-up photographs!

sounds like a huge project !
but one that one would be proud of for a loooooooooooong time !

anyway,
anyone tried running FET emulation into a Tech21 Power Amp ?

SICK!!!  I like it...

No, really though, that sounds like it will be a wicked fun time during the build, and it should be awesome sounding when you're done. Hope you update the forum with your progress as you go.

I really want to see how you're planning on switching this. Lets say you have preamps x, and y. If you are playing on x, then how do you switch to y, while instantaneously killing x? Also, the wiring for the switching would be really interesting... like are you gonna have  5(?) cables coming from the front of your amp? As to Peter Snowberg's comment, what is that type of switching? Maybe that is the fix to my wondering about the switching scheme.

For a tiny bit of input, perhaps consider something to give a touch of reverb or echo to your amp. I don't know about you, but I find it gives just a touch of roundness to the sound.

Have Fun,

First off, Thank's for some input and Encouragement, I'm gonna need it,
I switched pony's during the night as I was laying in bed thinking on how to do this, When I remembered a project I had bought several year's ago and never did anything to the Old Amp, a 300 watt Super Nova By Tel-Rey, It has Twin Spin Oil Can Delay and Digitel 3 spring reverb, the power section is Blowed, the reverb does work, the A.C motor's that drive the delay sytem or on the weak side, probably due to the fact that they relied on a friction system for slowing 1 motor down to give it the out of phaze sound.
First off the amp section I repaired and it's the worst topoligy that you could ever build, these thing's would blowup by themsrlf's, so a friend of mine that works for a Capacitor Co. in Calf. gave me his personal layout for a very good sounding and reliable power amp, he's used this amp with a few revision's for his main bass rig the last 15 year's and also 2 for his P.A. system.
I'll see if it's O.K. for me to post his amp on line, I'll also put Schematic's and pic's up at photobucket until my web site is up and running,
For someone that considers themself a Tubehead, I'm really looking forward to doing this,
Peter do you think Maybe incorporating a MidiBuddy might be an easy way of switching this stuff on the Fly ?, or if not I'll be bugging you for some more input on doing it the analog way you were referring to. I worked on a Bradshaw Switcher for Lenny Kravitz  a couple of years ago and I did take some note's of his topoligy, that part was OK, just everything was hardwired in and on analog system's where you may need to do a field repair I prefer socket's.
So I guess it's gonn be Super Nova John for awhile, :D  :D

The MIDIBuddy seems like an interesting way to go. With 10 stompswitches you could add a couple of effects loops and three more Runoffgroove amp sims! :D

No matter how they're driven, you still need to some kind of switch to change the audio path. If you want to remain pure as the driven snow with your signals then mechanical switching is the way to go. If you don't mind the signal touching a semiconductor switch (seeing as how it was just amplified by a bunch of FETs anyway ;)), then H11F3 photoFET switches are about the cleanest way you could go. They're small, easy to control from analog stomps or MIDI processing, and they'll be about the quietest switching you'll ever see.

As you get closer, please feel free to bug me about this stuff. Right now I don't even really have time to post here, but I do anyway. :o I've been talking with a couple of people in PMs about switching and I'm very backlogged, but when the time comes I should have some free time.

Take care,
-Peter
