Just wanted to say Hi.

I've just recently stumbled on all the incredible DIY stompbox & tube amp sites.
I'm blown away with all the info & help available!
It's been overwhelming, in a great way that is!
I must have put in 100 hours of reading in the last 2 weeks! LOL

I originally wanted to build the P1 amp from AX84 but I think
I'll start off with some Stomps to get my electronic juices flowing.
If I screw up at least I wont kill myself. ;-)
It's been awhile since noodeling with circuits multimeters etc.
Well lets see, about 20 years when I was in high school I guess!
A lot of the theory is coming back though after grabbing an electronics book.

Any ways, just wanted to "check in" & say thanks to all the contributing folks out there putting up the info!

BTW Starting off with the Electra dist, just rounding up the parts.
I'm finding out no one in my area carries simple resistors/caps/diodes etc any more!
Radio Shack has a VERY limited to NO selection these days!!
I found a spot kind of close that had a few things but I'll likely have to mail order or head into the city. (Toronto)

Cheers
Sean

Hey Sean, welcome to the forum :)
I don't like Holland. Nobody has the transistors I want.

That's where I order most of my stuff.  You can also look up digi-key and Allied electronics, but mouser seems to be the most "hobbyist" friendly (reasonable prices for small quantities).

Small Bear Electronics is a good place to look for DIY related parts and accesories.  Steve (of small bear) likely has the most relevant and useful selection for DIY guitar components that I have seen anywhere.

Welcome, and knock yourself out on all the available information!

Welcome to the forum !!!
There are great online parts suppliers, Small Bear, Mouser...etc.
I would recommend a booster for starters...check out the beginner page...booster/I use a booster all the time, great, [relatively] simple things these boosters !!!
A DMM [digital multimeter] is invaluable for building and debugging these circuits.

Welcome Sean. :D

If you want to build a tube amp project without the danger of turning into a crispy critter, check out http://www.sopht.ca for a 12V tube amp. 8)

Best of luck on your Electra build!

Take care,

Welcome to a very addictive hobby--You wont be able to stop with just one. Before its over you may easily have 5 different distortions, 4 tremolos, 5 fuzz, ect... ect.. till you find the sound your looking for. Good luck finding it.

Oh- forget about radio(crack)shack-there more concerned with cell phones and misc. crap. Smallbear/Mouser!!

My electronics learning curve went from ____ to / as soon as I found this site.
Get ready to take it slow, you learn very fast, but somehow it comes slow...for me at least. Once you get your feet wet, your certain to want to dive in.
You may find you're more 'bouyant' than expected and find it hard to become immediately 'immersed' in the relevant information you need to debug.
I felt staggeringly overwhelmed at the information density, expecially at first, but as I began to absorb it, the flow rate increased...still there are 'pieces' I know I'd like to understand better...every answer [especially at first] raises new questions.
Sorting through the fantastic selection of reads, and tutorials takes time [use bookmards/add to favorites], printing GEO articles on Technology of: Fuzz Face and Rangemaster is a good move...I used to carry that Rangemaster article with me to read at 'waiting points',  great stuff on biasing and getting active components to work right in those GEO 'Tech of' articles...[tech is in the name of, and the article...all good, just 'read over repeatedly and slowly, and try to understand what you can].
Try all the above links...TONS of good stuff.
