I tried a JRC 4558D which I got ages ago from a kit off Ebay & it was fine in my SOS. However, I asked TI to send me some samples and they kindly complied. The TLC 2202IP worked great, a bit more power & clarity than the JRC, highly recommended. I'll try the OPA2134 tonight.

If you have a NE5532, give that a try. Great sounding, quiet, and dirt cheap. The OPA2134 & OPA2064 should sound good also.

I got a pair of 2134s too but I think I'll build a headphone amp for my stereo with those...need one.

Dave,
I got a PV Mace VT Series 150 watt amp I'm restoreing, it has a few 4558 chips in the preamp side, I wonder if those would sub in it for the 4558's, it might help my ol PV get some more tone ?

Ti's RC4558 is a good choice.

Hi JD - I would suspect, yes, the 4558 was a primitive & cheap chip, TI has made great strides since then in various operating params that would apply to audio fidelity. Less noise, more linear, better thermal behaviour, etc. Can't hurt if TI will send you samples, just need a business address.

Thanks Dave,I'll check them out,
