Yet more (stupid?) newbie questions

I recently grabbed a few 3pdt switches from Aron, mostly because of the outstanding price. I've always had good results with the dpdt, but like I said, the price was right. Anyhow, my questions: Will the switch work without powering a status led, and if so, what's the best wiring layout for bp? Also, should the lugs be oriented horizontally or vertically?

Travis

It will work without the LED.

Think of it as three independent switches housed in the same box.

The flat sides of the lugs face the other lugs in the same switch (pole).  So, if the lugs are horizontal, the middle switch switches (throws) to the lugs above and below it.

I strongly recommend using a DMM set to continuity to see how the connections are made.

Cool?  There are various pictures of 3pdt's spread out all over the place.  Check the FAQ, search the archives.

Let me know how it goes.

You may as well have an LED though, why waste the extra pole :D ?
