I was wondering how to get rid of the static noise on the bridge and strings.   I tightened the bridge down, it seemed to lower the static noise a bit, but not all of it is gone.   Do I need to take the bridge off and put new wire or ??????
If I need to put new wire, what size and solid core or stranded.  I think solid but not sure.   Any other suggestions to get rid of this problem appreciated!!!

Thanks!

I found this link - http://www.mrgearhead.com/faq/pdf/diagrams/STDPBASS/SD0136000BPg2.pdf

Follow the ground wire on the schematic.
The wire should be 16gauge stranded or less. You'll have to take the bridge off to check the connection to the bridge. Also, check the connection from the bridge to the solder connection on the tone pot. Use some contact cleaner on the pots while you have it apart.

Arn, Deoxit, it's the Holy Grail for cleaning and Lubing, and if somebody say's WD 40 1 more time I'm gonna Scream, if they wanted you to use petroleum product's on this they would a supplyed the zirk fitting and gave us all a Grease Gun, and you can't believe how many time's i've seen grease shoved in a pot, Petroleum products conduct, silicon product's conduct, if you wanna degrade your signal, use petroleum based product's, or silicon, if you want a strong pure clean signal use Deoxit 5, it's HillBilly Friendly, and don't nobody flame me from Ark. for useing the word Hillybilly, Cause My Tenn. Ass can get just as worked up as your Ark. 1 can, LOL !

Thank you guys!
I figured that I would have to remove the bridge.   I stripped and resoldered the ground wire from the bridge and tightened down the bridge, but I do believe I will have to take it apart.  I have great electrical contact cleaner where I work, non petroleum based, and it does work great!
Thanks again for the advice!

I like to add ground for ground fault testing.
Take a clipped wire or wire from known ground, and connect it where you need ground, problem found, or have to look elsewhere.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Infact, I am bringing a jumper home with me with alligator clips on each end just for that reason petemoore.... Thanks!

Update:   I unscrewed the cover of my 1/4 " Jack on the guitar cable and then plugged it into the bass input jack, I then ran  my jumper from the ground of the 1/4" jack to the bridge and I can still hear static, when I  touch the strings or bridge or slide my fingers along the strings.  Its not real loud but still noticeable.

I guess I will next bypass the input jack, I am suspect, the jack is the problem.  I did clean the jack, but when I plug into it, it is a bit loose fitting.

Peace!
