Ive heard nothing but good things from everyone about the Vulcan so I went looking for a PCB, as Im stil learning to crawl. I found one at Gringos web site, and I found the Schem at Joes site- but the PCB doesnt tell me what each vaule is in conjunction with the schem- maybe Im not being clear- For example- What is R1 and so on? The schem is complete with the values and all, but Im not sure which resistor is R1 which cap is C3 and so on.
Does anyone have a clean PCB with the parts list?
Man it sux being a newbie!

Thank you all so much!

If you give me a couple of days i'll rearrange the vulcan pcb layout the way i did the ones at ROG :)
Cut it large, and smash it into place with a hammer.

THAT would be so freakin cool!

Thanks!!!

Gringo

Well, this came out fast. The zip file now contains a single pdf with layout, bom, and transfer.

Have fun!

I haven't even built it yet until starting on it today. Took 30 mins on some plain perfboard.

Speaking of perfboard, I gave up on the pad-per-hole I have been trying to use. Kept screwing that up (pads come off) and the regular stuff seems to be much easier to desolder and fix things on. I kinda "grew up" doing it this way, I guess my methods are set in stone.

Joe- I tried PPH once oto and had the same thing... darn things kept coming off making a mess... I chalked it up to being green... I guess its just not a great method huh?

The only way I could ever make it work is to 1.) make sure the layout is correct and 2.) solder in all the components, clip the leads, and do the rest of the wiring with very thin solid wire. This made it neater & easier to fix. But I'm going back to my cheap perfboard :)

Make sure it's in a good metal enclosure, to shield the diodes in the circuit. Just finished it up. It's hard to pry away from the Vulcan once you start. If it gets too much gain use 470k's instead of the 220k's, which is how I built mine.

Perfboard ! ya just gotta love it ! I'm gonna try to build the Vulcan in the near future, now I'm gonna follow your thread and pick up pointer's seeing;s how I have'nt built anything with some gain yet.

I'll be putting it into a Hammond box so I should be cool. Im a gain freak, so I'll try it stock first then mod it with the different Rvalue.
Thanks for all of your help! I think I'll put the kiddos to bed and start building.

rhinson

hello there,  i've tried several times to go to gringo's site but my browser times out every time.  i guess something must be wrong with the site or some connection between my internet server and his.  could someone please email me the vulcan pcb transfer and layout files?  my email address is rhinson@midsouth.rr.com.   thanks a lot.     rh

Gringo

The text of the PDF is all screwed up-   :(

rhinson

hey there gringo,  yes i got it----thanks very much!! i've already got 4 layout copies ready to go on my next press n peel blue sheet (along with a couple of bsiab II's, 70's fuzz, and 2 or 3 other things-----i let 'em pile up until i have enough cool board layouts so i don't have to burn a whole sheet on one or 2 things).   anyway thanks again.    rh

Text looks fine for me....Anyone else have troubles?

audioguy

Let me clarify- it looks super imposed on top of other txet with a bunch of little squares underneath it all...
Almost like a strange vision test.

Wow, really?

What version are you using? I'm using Acrobat 4.0 and it works fine. Havn't looked at it with a newer version. Tried re-downloading?

audioguy

Im using Acrobat 6. I'l try redownloading the PDFs

I see the sqares behind the text too.

1) Cool pdf's!

2) What software did you use to draw the file? If you used illustrator, freehand, or corel, try tracing the text (convert them to shapes, traces, or paths; name depends on the software)

3) What software did you use to create the pdf? If its cute-pdf-printer, I´ve got several troubles using that too. Illustrator and Freehand can export to pdf themselves. Don´t know about corel.

I hope this helps a bit.
