Im playing around with different resistors on a thomas wah and would like to put a 100k trim pot in place of the "q resistor"first are there different sizes because the hole spacing is to wide for the small trim pot s Ive used on other mods.the legs Im concerned with are #2 and #3 right ??so what do I do with the third leg? Also is the reissue fazael inductor from dunlap good or bad?  Id like more output volume,so which resistor should I change and what are some values to try??

Duff

I only bought one trimmer in my life, and from the first to the third leg its just the space of a resistor. What you have to do is to use the wiper (center leg) and one of the others (doesnt matter which), if the space between them isnt enough, you could bend them or solder the mid one to say the first, and solder the first and third to the board.
For more volume you should lower the input resistor to 33-47k which, as RG Keen says gives you unity gain, but he also says: "However, lowering it also lowers the input impedance and therefore increases tone sucking if you don't either use true bypass or buffering at the input."
I´d use a trimmer and check it out.

First, it´s "Fasel", and "Dunlop"  :D , did you misspeld it, or read it wrong, if it´s the second one, it´s surely a bad imitation!
I don´t think Fasel is from Dunlop, the Vox wah-wahs used Fasel inductors(VOX rules :D ), Dunlop´s Crybaby have Crybaby inductors (Die Crybaby! )
I´ve never tried a Vox or a Fasel and ironicly own a Crybaby  , but I´m sure they´re beyond awsome, the old Fasels are for me (and for half of the world) the best inductors ever, for their legendary magic sound. I don´t know if there are new ones, and if they are different or not.

RG Keen has a page explaining wah-wah mods and Fasel´s "magic" in geofex.com at the end of the list, also check http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.castledine/greenfuz/wah.html

Boy, I would do anything to have a black´n crome VOX wah-wah with a Fasel in it

Now the newbie becomes the master. 8)

Ironically, the nicest way to correct mispelled words is to include the properly spelled words in your reply. :D

For your question, gdmart, you can remove the third leg.  The trimmer is functioning as a variable resistor, and only needs two reference points (one of which must be #2).

For more volume, you can also decrease the value of the emitter resistor on Q1.  I prefer this method, as you can also add a bit of grit to your wah.  I generally use a fixed 100 ohm resistor and a 500 ohm pot.

I believe that all of this is mentioned on Castledine's page (mentioned and linked by Duff).

I haven't been impressed with the new Fasel inductors.  I can't get them to sound as good as any other random wah inductors, let alone better.  Other people on this board have reported better experiences with them.

I should mention that "Dunlap" has helped me accumulate quite a few wah shells at very low prices; eBay mispellings, the hidden sale.

Is this the site you were talking about--

http://www.green-fuz.freeserve.co.uk/wah.html

It hasn't been up and running for awhile now, which sucks because I can't find all the info from it anywhere else!

I just socketed all the parts I swapped out, so I can fine-tune my wah a bit more and experiment.

What also is a bummer is that the site linked by Danny G used to have some DIY mod information. But it has been removed from his new site. I guess providing people with info on how to DIY was stealing too much business away from him?

Well, it looks like the DIY stuff is still available, it just got moved to a new domain...
