this is a good topic to post this under; not sure if this has been mentioned yet.

not cheap, but a solution nonetheless. Adapters that you can solder a SMD device to and plug it into a regular DIP socket.

I've seen those adapters in the Electus catalog - for 99% of ICs, surely it would be cheaper to just order the DIL versions? Or are these adapters a conspiracy to allow manufacturers to stop production of non-SMD parts?   ;)

You can still find these part's, i've got 100 coming, if no one has any and you can wait a few day's i'll have some to spare,
and yes, i saw the 40 dollar sub for an IC that i have been searching for, vibro world has them, you have to buy the socket, and board to replace a ca3094, i have'nt seen the one your talking about, but it's probably just as big a ripoff as the 1 i needed, i got luckey, as i was cleaning my shop and off loading project's that i'll save for future, i found i had a stash of the ca3094's,  not so luckey though on the 72's, but got a good deal on the 1's i bought.

..Historically, manufacturers started producing SMD-only parts before the adaptors, or at least before there were anything other than $20+ specialist prototyping adaptors. At least we are seeing some cheaper adaptors now.
