Is there a book or website other than using nteinc for finding a cross reference of a particular part? I was wondering if there was some place for example, to find something comparable to 1n456 Si diode. Any ideas?

I used to use an ECG or an NTE cross reference book before Al Gore invented the internet.

I'm not sure of anything else that will give you cross references for non-ECG/NTE parts.

I used to cross-ref parts by checking what parts cross to the same ECG number. Unfortunately, I found that most NPN transistors cross to ECG 123A. That means that to ECG, there is no difference between a BC109, a 2n3904 and a 2n5088.
