How could I make a lbb1 or begginer project but set it for a fixed gain instead of a pot, I want to use it before a 386 like the one in the krank d.m. I don't have that specific transistor though. I have a npn transistors like the 3904,how can I set the boost level using a resistor?

Use a volume control to decide the output attenuation desired.
Set the pot to the desired output level.
Measure both sides of the pot [take notes], resistance between the lugs: 1 and 2, also 2 and 3.
Pick some resistors, near those values, connect them, where you connected them is now your wiper, the other 2 ends are the outside potlugs...for your new fixed value voltage divider.
This can now replace the variable voltage divider [pot], be sure to orient the larger value resistance where the pot was providing the larger value resistance.
Playing with the emitter resistor...bumping it up will decrease gain..and the circuit will have plenty of stability.
Note and adjust bias as necessary.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.
