I don't know - but I do it all the time.  :)

what ever blows your skirt up   i find that my tongue is better suited for other things. at least that's what my wife says. 8)

I found that testing a 9volt that way, for the amnoubt of years I've done it, has helped my tongue.

Normally tom if anyone other than you or gringo had said that, i would have instantly gone into smart A** mode and come with a comeback.  but i have to agree with ya.

I used to think it was OK until someone had to perform CPR on me when my heart stopped after testing a 9V battery with my tongue.
OK, I'm just kidding. 8)

My dad showed me that trick when I was a little boy, been doing it for many years now.

You guys lick your circuit boards?

OK, now that's the strangest thing I have heard....

Basically the same thing as licking a 9v battery, so long as you don't have anything that raises the current too much

Now that's a fettish. :?

Heavy metals are bad to ingest. DMMs are accurate to more decimal places too.

which leads to the question, which is a better conductor, saliva? Or water?

I’ve heard of ‘tongues’ that 9V batteries fit into (nudge nudge, know what I mean!), but never the other way round…

Because saliva is a damn fine conductor, it is pretty easy to monitor the status of 9v's with one's tongue.  After a while, you get to a point where you can probably "taste" the voltage within a few tenths of a volt (hmm, tastes like 7.8, time to replace).  And no, Eric Johnson does NOT use a particular mouth rinse prior to licking his batteries in his Fuzz Face.

I caution any novice lickers that there is a BIG BIG difference between licking the snaps on a 9v and licking the snaps on a 6-D-cell holder, fully loaded.  Although fresh alkalines can pack a bit of a kick, 9v batteries are probably the only instance where the voltage and current is within reasonable limits to permit survival of human taste buds and the body they inhabit.  I would never apply my tongue to 9v supplied in any other manner, whether a 6-pack of AAA or larger.

Having said that, your mother would likely say "Do you KNOW where that battery has been?"  Lick your own batteries, stay away from other people's, and don't give them your spit to taste.....unless you, uh, share more than musical "tastes".

...somehow, this all reminds me of that first REALLY bad sore throat...

If you're old enough to have any cavitys filled with amalgam ( a mercary-alloy used in filling in scandinavia when I was a kid..at least..) it could potentially be ..eh..not so good...with electrolyse in mind that is....

OK, with all this talk of batteries and tongues (if this was a wood working forum I guess we would say tongue in groove) it's time someone said it.
